The Latin for Cocoa Beans (Theobroma cacao) translates to ‘Food of the Gods’. The Aztecs regarded the Cacao tree as sacred and used the cocoa beans as a form of currency.
So far the only use that the Western world has had for Cocoa beans has been in the form of chocolate. However, recently the medicinal properties of cocoa butter have been
revealed and now millions of people have started to use this beautiful butter on their skin.
Benefits to the Skin:
Antioxidants – Cocoa butter is high in antioxidants that fight off free-radicals. Free Radicals can cause skin aging, dull skin and dark patches.
Deep Hydration: Cocoa butter is rich in fatty acids and hydrates the skin deeply
Sensitive Skin: cocoa butter has been shown to improve and relieve conditions such as eczema and dermatitis.
Apply cocoa butter to burns for soothing, protective and moisturizing care. When it is applied topically, Cocoa butter creates a barrier between the skin and the environment,
thus helping the skin to retain moisture.
“According to the physician education website, Wounds Research.com, cocoa butter far exceeded a placebo in relieving the itching or burning sensations that commonly attend
burn healing when it was applied with massage therapy. The benefit was noticeable as much as 80 to 165 days after injury. In November, 1998, the U.S. Patent Office granted a
patent for a product containing 75 to 100 percent cocoa butter designed to treat first- and second-degree sun or thermal burns. The product promoted 100 percent regrowth of
new skin by 8 to 9 days after injury, much more quickly than untreated burns. Many burn care products have since been marketed commercially using this cocoa butter breakthrough”.
Research indicates that massaging the skin with Cocoa Butter may help relieve stress, boost the immune system, and even prevent cancer. It is also a folk remedy for burns, dry lips,
fever, malaria, rheumatism, snakebites and wounds. It is reported to be both antiseptic and diuretic.
In order for Cocoa Butter to be as effective as possible, it should get in contact with as many of your skin cells as possible, this means rubbing it well into your skin.
Once the Cocoa Butter is absorbed it will destroy free radicals in the lower depths of your skin as soon as they are produced, and before they can do damage. It has been scientifically
proven that Cocoa Butter will prevent skin degradation due to the harmful effects of the sun.
Applied topically, Cocoa Butter immediately makes a difference to the texture of your skin, making it feel more supple and soft. It also provides instant pain relief for skin irritations.
Because it can access the skin layers so deeply, you do not have to apply Cocoa Butter more than a couple of times a day – this is an added benefit in eczema and dermatitis treatment.
Daily use will ensure that your skin is hydrated, will enforce collagen and elastin production.
